Driving while texting. Would you call that multitasking? What a great way to save time right? WRONG!
Driving while texting is like driving after drinking four beers, when you take your eyes of the road even for a few minutes, it is like driving blind for that short period of time. From the moment you started texting, it takes 5 seconds or less to deviate your attention away from the road in front of you. Text messaging while driving increases the risk of car accidents. While text messaging, it is easy to run off your lane, you may not even notice important road signals like Stop or Giveway signs and you could even hit the car in front of you or worse still, a innocent pedestrian. Driving while texting is a distraction! You may not think that is that bad because many people do it and get away with it but did you know that it is illegal and poses extreme danger to you and those around you. Don’t wait for a terrible car accident to happen to you, prevention is the best solution. Don’t text while driving!
This so called “driving while texting” causes nearly 32% of all car accidents and serious injuries. Most people may think it is not a problem, but it is a huge risk! Driving while texting causes 1.6 million accidents per year. Isn’t that alarming? You are six times more likely to cause an accident while texting than you are while driving intoxicated.
So next time you’re driving, don’t reach for your phone, put it out of sight. Because if you don’t you are risking the lives of those around you plus your own, think of it the same as driving blind for those few seconds that you take your eyes of the road.
